It looks like craft beer is bouncing back positively from the 2020 pandemic. The Brewers Association has released its list of top-producing craft breweries for 2021. And in the reportthey found that “the overall beer market grew by 1% in volume in 2021. The retail dollar value was estimated at $26.9 billion, representing 26.8% market share and growth of 21% compared to 2020.”
“Craft brewer sales rebounded in 2021, driven by the return of draft and brewery traffic, confirmed Bart Watson, Chief Economist, Brewers Association. Watson went on to say “However, mixed performance across business models and geographies, as well as production levels that still lag behind 2019, suggest that many breweries remain in recovery mode. Add to that the ongoing supply chain and pricing challenges, and 2022 will be a critical year for many brewers.”
Part of that growth was fueled by three Pennsylvania breweries making the list, with the key state retaining the top spot.
Pottsville’s Yuengling Brewing has once again taken the top spot among craft beers produced in the United States. It should also be noted that Yuengling ranks 7th among all craft and macro breweries.
Independent brewery Tröegs finds itself on this list in 24th place (losing four places compared to the previous year). Meanwhile, Artisanal Brewing Ventures (which includes Victory Beer, Sixpoint and Southern Tier) held steady in eighth place, just like the previous year.
